GED Program

The GED® program proudly prepares adult learners for success in the job market, college, and beyond by building the skills and confidence they need to flourish.

The computer-based GED® Test is a battery of four tests which include Reasoning through Language Arts, Science, Mathematical Reasoning, and Social Studies. Successful completion of the GED® Test earns an individual a State of Florida High School Diploma, which could open the doors to jobs, promotions, college, and many other opportunities. GED Grads have increased earning potential they report high job satisfaction with employment they obtain after earning their GED.

This program has 4 content areas: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, Social Studies

Reasoning Through Language Arts

Reading for Meaning, Identifying and Creating Arguments, Grammar and Language

· 150 minutes

· Includes a 10-minute break

· Includes one essay that you have 45 minutes to write

· Measures your:

» Ability to read closely, write clearly, and edit and understand written text

» Ability to understand, interpret, and answer questions based on text

» Ability to use evidence to support an argument

» Understanding of basic English skills at a level needed to succeed in college or a job

 

 

Mathematical Reasoning

· 115 minutes

· 2 parts with a short break

» No calculator allowed on the first part

» You can use a TI-30XS calculator for

· the remaining questions

· Math formulas and a calculator reference guide provided

· Problem-solving abilities in the following areas

 

 

Science

Reading for Meaning in Science, Designing and Interpreting Science Experiments, Using Numbers and Graphics in Science

· 90 minutes

· No break

· May include up to 2 short answer questions

· Can use a TI-30XS calculator

· Measures your:

» Ability to read, understand, and interpret science-related texts

» Problem-solving abilities in sciencerelated situations

 

 

Social Studies

Reading for Meaning in Social Studies, Analyzing Historical Events and Arguments in Social Studies, Using Numbers and Graphs in Social Studies

· 70 minutes

· No break

· Can use a TI-30XS calculator

· Measures your:

» Ability to read, understand, and interpret social studies-related texts

» Problem-solving abilities in social studies-related situations
