Program Highlights:
ICA Learning Center offers Live classroom training for the 6-hour, and 2-hour medication courses needed for the administration of pharmaceutical medications and/or to support patients’ self—administration of medication. These courses are intended to provide guidelines to direct care staff and unlicensed persons who anticipates providing medication. As a Medication Technician (Med Tech) each student is trained as a healthcare professional responsible for administering prescribed medications to patients in various healthcare settings, such as assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, group homes, and other home healthcare environments. Med Tech’s play a critical role in patient care by safely administering prescribed medications, ensuring that patients receive their medications correctly and on time, monitoring patients for side effects, and working in partnership with nurses to ensure the well-being of those they care for.

The ICA Learning Center Med Tech Training Administration Course will train you in each of the various routes of medication administration (oral, topical, inhaled, otic, transdermal, and injectable). The training focuses on;
Working as a Med Tech gives you essential skills in medication management, patient interaction, collaboration with the pharmacy to ensure medication availability, perform medication cart audits, and teamwork. These experiences are valuable if you choose to advance your healthcare career (e.g., becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or other roles).
As a student at ICA Learning Center, you will learn the key responsibilities of a Medication Technician:
1. Administering Medications:
Med Techs are trained to dispense oral, topical, and sometimes injectable medications to patients as per doctors' orders and healthcare protocols.
2. Monitoring Patient Reactions:
After administering medications, they observe patients for any side effects or adverse reactions and report any concerns to supervising nurses or physicians.
3. Documentation:
Med Techs accurately document medication administration, including the time, dosage, and type of medication given, ensuring proper record-keeping.
4. Assisting Nurses and Medical Staff:
While their primary role is medication management, Med Techs may also assist in general patient care, such as taking vital signs, reporting changes in patient health, and helping with daily activities.
5. Communication:
They serve as a bridge between patients and healthcare providers, reporting any concerns, medication refusals, or health changes to nurses or doctors.
Medication Technicians will understand the rules for Authorization for Medication Administration, and for Informed Consent for Medication Administration. Demonstrate understanding of medication instructions by reading and following instructions on a prescription label or health care practitioner’s order, and accurately complete a Medical Administration Record (MAR).
The ICA Learning Center students will also be able to state and demonstrate the six rights of medication administration, give extreme attention to detail, timeliness, and have astute observation skills that are necessary to be a Medication Technician. Students will feel confident and competent in administering medication, communicating with providers, nurses, and leadership regarding any observed changes in patient condition. A medical professional, with excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to help people.
